“Glass Jar (Feat. Jenny Lewis)” premiered last week exclusively via Stereogum, which hailed Tristen’s “killer vocals” along with “the song’s ’60s-nostalgic sound and the isolationist lyricism… synths and guitars overlay the idea of being trapped and on display in something more like a prison than a home.” Paste followed, declaring “Glass Jar” to be a “psychedelic, quirky avant-folk gem,” pointing out “the overall darker tone of the song, hidden amid layers of airy guitar and synth vibes.” Directed by Nashville artist Casey Pierce, “Glass Jar (Feat. Jenny Lewis)” is steaming now at Tristen’s official YouTube channel.

“‘Glass Jar’ is about having a conversation with someone and feeling a disconnect,” says Tristen, “like there is a slab of glass between you. Sometimes I feel like I am a spider in a jar and the other person isn't trying to get to know me, rather they are playing with me to see my reaction. And this leads back to the way we communicate; the image I create of myself, and the image I create of the other person is interacting with the other person's self image and their image of me. It's about feeling trapped, tested, and even set up for failure.”

Tristen will herald Sneaker Waves with an epic North American tour. The dates – which include a co-headline run alongside Jenny O. – begin June 24th at Louisville, KY’s Zanzabar and then continue into the fall. For updates and ticket availability, please visit www.tristen.com/tour.

Sneaker Waves marks Tristen’s third solo studio album, following 2011’s Charlatans at the Golden Gate and 2013’s Caves, the former acclaimed by American Songwriter as “an electric fix of pop-hook mastery, a killer voice and some folk influences that congeal into one of the more idiosyncratic points of view from either side of the Mason-Dixon line.” Named by Nashville Scene as its “Top Local Album of 2013,” Caves earned attention from SPIN for “recast(ing) Tristen as a synth-pop siren,” while PopMatters praised the album as “full of bright pop melodies, strong vocals and big instrumentation.”

A native of South Side Chicago turned longtime Nashville resident, Tristen has been singing since she could speak, writing and recording her own songs since she was a teenager. An in-demand touring musician who has spent much of recent years as a member of Jenny Lewis’ backing combo, Tristen’s own extraordinary work ties indelible melody to a singularly poetic lyricism, recently displayed in her debut collection of poetry, 2016’s Saturnine.
