I love his work with Gayngs, Poliça, and MDS so when it came time for remixes, he was a natural choice.”

MIRROR TRAVEL SIGNS WITH MODERN OUTSIDER RECORDS

We are excited to announce that Austin-based band Mirror Travel has signed with Modern Outsider Records. Earlier this week Esquire Magazine said they were one of the best shows they caught at this year's SXSW Festival.

Formerly known as Follow That Bird, Mirror Travel is Lauren Green, Paul Brinkley, and Tiffanie Lanmon. The three piece underwent a name change in late 2012 and, with this, bring forth their first first 7" in two years on Brooklyn label, Last Bummer, followed by a full length with local label, Modern Outsider.

Their upcoming 10 song full length was recorded in Marfa, TX this past summer at Marfa Recording Company (Grouper, Yacht, Grizzly Bear) and will be the band's first official full length label release.

Their sound is "A Storm in Heaven"-era Verve meets Siouxsie and the Banshees. Think Pretenders II. Think sun-ripended and toasted southwestern haze-gaze. Welcome to the ModOut family Mirror Travel!

THE BLACK AND WHITE YEARS RETURN WITH NEW SONG "JUST LIKE OLD TIMES" PREMIERES ON YVYNYL, BAND TO PLAY SXSW

The 2012 NPR Band to Watch return in 2013 prepared to release their first new album since 2010 on Modern Outsider Records. The album was produced by Danny Reisch (Dana Falconberry, White Denim, What Made Milwaukee Famous, Okkervil River) at Good Danny's in Austin, Tx.

The first offering, titled "Just Like Old Times," premiered on yvynyl today and features the vocals of Adrienne Butler, wife of singer-songwriter Scott Butler. In 2011, Scott asked if Adrienne would sing on a rough demo, without knowing whether she would or even could sing. She agreed to give it a try; and the band was floored when they heard the recording. In 2013, The Black and White Years return with a new album, a new perspective and a new voice.

The Black and White Years will appear at SXSW this year as part of the Modern Outsider Records showcase at Maggie Mae's on Wednesday, March 13. Album details and additional SXSW appearances TBA soon.

GLISS RELEASE FIRST OF FIVE LIVE ACOUSTIC VIDEOS CAMPAIGN KICKS OFF WITH “INTO THE WATER”

As they continue to topple alternative specialty radio charts, Los Angeles trio, Gliss, is pleased to release a live session video of their track “Into The Water.” This is the first in a series of five acoustic videos the band will be releasing via Under The Radar Magazine every Monday over the next five weeks. According to the band, the videos were “filmed on a cold and rainy California day far up in the mountains,” and the chilled mood is evident through the cascading images and sounds. Gliss is currently in the midst of their Monday February Residency at Los Globos in Silver Lake, Los Angeles, see dates on the tour page. Their newest album, Langsom Dans, was recently released via Modern Outsider.

MODERN OUTSIDER ANNOUNCES GLISS’ “HUNTING (CHRIS BERG REMIX)”

Los Angeles trio, Gliss, is pleased to release a remix of their track “Hunting” from acclaimed Swedish producer, Chris Berg. Berg has previously produced Fever Ray’s album and tracks for The Knife. The band is also beginning a free residency in February at Los Globos in Silver Lake, Los Angeles. See all dates below. They will also be stopping by Nic Harcourt’s morning show on 88.5FM KCSN on Feb 1st for a live performance and chat. Their newest album, Langsom Dans, was recently released via Modern Outsider.

Danish/American band Gliss makes a huge departure from their old sound on the new record Langsom Dans which is gathering comparisons to Beach House, Crystal Castles and Lower Dens. The LA based trio, consisting of Victoria Cecilia, Martin Klingman and David Reiss, pour their collective musical imaginations into recording timeless art pop with a precise Scandinavian texture that steps away from their previous work. The 12-track LP features heavy synths and electronic beats with Danish expatriate, Victoria Cecilia, stepping into the role as lead singer. The passionate vocal harmonies dictate the recordings with stories of coming out of the darkness into a new life, bringing to mind The XX, Portishead and Depeche Mode. This is a full-length from a band that knows their sound, and having toured with the likes of The Horrors, Raveonettes and Editors, they clearly have the credentials.

The album is released through Modern Outsider and is already climbing into the Top 5 on the alternative specialty radio charts, and was #3 most added at CMJ college radio charts.

Gliss To Release New Album In 2013 On Modern Outsider Records

Modern Outsider is thrilled to announce that we will be releasing the brand new album from the Danish/American trio Gliss. Langsom Dans will be available on double vinyl, CD and MP3 on January 22, 2013. The best description of the band is late night art pop. They’ve toured with Glasvegas, The Horrors, The Raveonettes, Editors, BRMC, The Warlocks and more.

Gliss completed recording the follow up to Devotion Implosion in Los Angeles, which was mixed by Michael Patterson (Trent Reznor/NIN, Beck, Ladytron) and mastered by Henrik Jonsson (Lykke Li, The Knife). Langsom Dans (translated as Slow Dance) shows the band experimenting with new sonics, atmospheres and voices. You can see the band's video for the new track "Weight Of Love" by clicking here. Stay tuned for much more from Gliss!

New Song/Video From Soft Swells

Soft Swells has released a brand new song, "Summer," which is now available as a free download. MTV Buzzworthy premiered the video, saying "The track adds urgency to the video's calming visuals, its chugging guitars restrained by head nodding, drumming, and Williams' breezy vocals. And we're not through making comparisons: The song's mellowed-out vibe is like drinking the exact right amount of Intelligentsia coffee, and follows in the footsteps of like-minded mellow indie rockers Real Estate. Soft Swells' self-titled debut is out now on Modern Outsider, and we're going to go ahead and play it on loop by the pool pretending it's 90 degrees again and not...October. Indian summer, anyone?"

UME TO APPEAR ON EMMY WINNING SERIES "ANTHONY BOURDAIN: NO RESERVATIONS - THE FINAL TOUR."

Ume today announced that they will appear on the season premiere of the Emmy® award-winning series "Anthony Bourdain: No Reservations - The Final Tour." The episode will debut on Travel Channel on Monday, September 3rd at 9:00 PM ET / PT (8:00PM CT) to launch the ninth and final season of the acclaimed series.

The one-hour season opener starts in Austin, TX where Bourdain soaks in all that is good in the hipster hotspot during the 2012 SXSW Interactive, Film, and Music Festival. With a variety of musical artists as his guides, Tony enjoys a great week of music, fantastic food and partying with a bunch of cool new rock star friends.

While in Austin, Bourdain attended Ume's packed performance at Hotel Vegas for the Brooklyn Vegan SXSW party. To quote Bourdain, it was "... a shitload of rawk in a tiny little room." Bourdain also enjoyed some hardcore eats with the local trio, over dinner at the Barley Swine restaurant. Check out the teaser for a preview of the band's time with Bourdain.

"We're big fans of Anthony Bourdain," said Ume's Lauren Larson. "We're thrilled to have had the opportunity to help show him what makes Austin such a unique place and honored he came out to see us play live in our hometown!"

ModOut Management's My Jerusalem To Release New LP Preachers Out October 9th On The End Records

“Nobody ever paid money to see Harry Houdini escape being buried alive” says My Jerusalem founder and singer Jeff Klein. “They wanted the small chance of seeing him killed by the weight of the earth on top of him.”

Behold the concept behind Preachers, the second full-length release from Austin’s My Jerusalem. From the opening piano of the haunting title track, to the unexpected pummeling guitar and drums on closer “I Left My Conscience In You”, Preachers leads the listener on a cinematic journey through a reckless, jagged landscape of Raymond Carver-esque stories, fueled by Klein’s persuasive baritone, ominous guitars, dream-like keyboards and a deep rhythmic pulse.

Recorded in under three weeks by Spoon drummer Jim Eno (Heartless Bastards, Polica, Black Joe Lewis) at his Public Hi-Fi studio, Preachers is the first My Jerusalem album genuinely made by a band, not just performed by a group of musicians. Pushing aside hard drives and laptops to make way for analog tape machines and vintage keyboards, what Klein describes as the “Post-Modern Southern Gothic Soul” sounds of Preachers were born from organic, live performances Eno carefully captured and tweaked.

Preachers is the follow-up to 2010’s critically acclaimed debut, Gone For Good, an album that earned the band performances on BBC Radio 6 and Daytrotter, as well as notices from NPR’s All Songs Considered, AOL/Spinner’s Song of the Day, and the iTunes Weekly Rewind. Along with European festival appearances at the Frequency Festival, Musikfestwochen, and Rock Im Saal, the band toured and played shows with a eclectic set of bands including Edward Sharpe and the Magnetic Zeros, Har Mar Superstar, Avett Brothers, Godspeed You! Black Emperor, and White Arrows.

Buoyed by the success of Gone For Good, Preachers showcases a band headed into the studio with a renewed focus and confidence. Preachers contains equal parts swagger (the swampy gospel of title track “Preachers”, the strutting intensity of “Born In The Belly”) and groove (the spooky beauty of “Shatter Together”, the crescendoing, feral drive of “Devoe”, the infectious crooner “Mono”); as much primal (“Death Valley”) as it is humane (“Chameleon”).

“It’s a darker record,” says Klein, who, before forming My Jerusalem in 2010, made 3 records under his own name. “So much had changed since Gone For Good. We’d all kind of been through hell and back again in different ways, and this was the natural artistic result of all of that.  But I think it’s a beautiful, comforting darkness. It’s real, but not selfish.”

“We finally have a shared collective vibe,” adds guitarist/keyboardist Jon Merz, “I believe it’s more representative of what our live shows sound like. This time around, Jeff  would bring us song ideas and we would add our own perspectives to it.”

The five-piece, which also features multi-instrumentalist Michael St. Clair, drummer Grant Van Amburgh, and bassist Geena Spigarelli, also had the opportunity to road-test much of the new material before recording, during their extensive touring behind Gone For Good. It was a luxury they didn’t have the first time around.

“Working out the kinks live before recording them makes a big difference,” reflects Klein, “They get a chance to breathe and grow before committing them to the world permanently. Because of that process, some songs, like ‘Death Valley,’ sound nothing like their early version. We’re excited to take them on the road and see how they evolve even further.”

Equal parts sweet, morbid, strange, and sincere, Preachers is an experience that could convert the most steadfast of non-believers.
